3 Reasons To Start An Art Blog

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Why A Blog?

For the longest time, I had played around with the idea of starting a blog. It seemed like a good idea, but I was always hesitant to really begin. Finally, I took the leap. There were three reasons why blogging was right for me. I wanted to have a place to share my art, provide tutorials, and hopefully make a little money.

Owning a blog is better than any other social networking platform because unlike Instagram or youtube, I own my site. Because I personally own my blog I do not have to worry about my site or content being deleted. But let’s get back to my reasons for starting the blog.

My Artwork

Art has been a love and passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I began teaching myself art when I was 12 years old. As my skills began to grow I wanted to share my artwork and feel like my art was serving a purpose. With a blog I can not only share my work, but hopefully use my artwork to motivate others to keep learning. This leads me to my next reason, which to provide lessons so others can learn with me.

Provide Tutorials

Have you ever searched and searched for something, but were unable to find it? I know I have, especially when I was starting out as an artist. When learning how to paint and draw I would have an image in my head I would want to create. I would picture loosely painted buildings, animals, flowers, and other scenery in watercolor. But as a new artist, I did not know where to begin.

So, I decided to take my dilemma to Pinterest and Youtube. However, almost every time, on my hunt to learn, I would not be able to find what I was looking for. Other times I would find a pin on Pinterest of what I wanted to create, but when clicking on it I would get directed to a site telling me how much that painting cost, not how to recreate the image. This brought me to create the place I was searching for.

This blog will hopefully allow aspiring artist to find the works of art they are searching for, and allow them to learn the skills they need to recreate them.

But why recreate someone else’s work? I’m glad you asked. By recreating someone else’s work you are learning the skills and techniques of that medium. These newly acquired skills and techniques will allow you to create your own original artwork.

My blog posts will not be filled with a lot of fluff content. I will focus on giving you step by step instruction on how to draw and paint. These instructions will provide you with the skills you need to master these mediums.

Make Money

Lastly, I had always dreamed of making money with my art, but it always seemed impossible. However, by starting an art blog it could actually happen. There are many ways to make money through blogging. I would be able to make money without actually selling my art. Blogging allows you to make money through affiliated links, sponsored posts, selling your own products, and many more.

It is always scary starting something new, but when you take the leap it is worth it. One of my favorite quotes is “If you can dream it, you can do it.” by Walt Disney. If you can dream of a successful blog then you can do it. Anything is possible with a little bit of hard work.
